Baby Ethan 1.14.2015 {Chicago Newborn Photographer | La Grange Park Photographer}

Little Ethan surprised us all and came a couple weeks early, which was ok with me since I was so excited to meet him after knowing his mama for many years. He was so cuddly, and I just love new baby smell and curling up with the little itty bitty ones! The gorgeous gray blanket was knitted just for him and I was so excited to use it. I always bring a ton of blankets and backdrops with me, but there is something so special about using a personal piece, so it is unique to just this little guy, and it’s something when he grows older and is carrying around mom and dad will remember how tiny he was curled up in to. *Gives me warm fuzzies*

Ethan allowed me a lot of poses and the wonderful gray blanket, but as soon as we switched he gave me a run for my money! Good thing I know how to work with it 🙂 He was soothed with the cutest little pacifier, and it had a monkey attached! In the cream blanket pics, you will see his face as we pull away the pacifier… priceless!

Gorgeous nursery, gorgeous family, and so happy I get to capture this little guy over his first year!!

Photographers…. more info below too on how to help fix shadows!!

And some fun stuff for my photographer friends, or any mama just wanting to photograph a little better…

So I am a lover of light, and it has to fall correctly on baby or else it can look dark and mysterious. Don’t get me wrong, I love playing with shadows to enhance a mood or emotion, which you can see with Ethan and Mommy in BW in his nursery, but to me a newborn when posed should be pure, simple, and timeless which requires some even light. Take a look at these two pics… almost the same, and apart from a slightly different angle you can see some shadows on Ethan’s face in the photo on the left. Silly me setup the beanbag for his head to always be to my right since he had a little knot on his noodle from childbirth, then I forgot and setup the rest for him laying left. He was finally perfectly posed, but stirring, and I didn’t want to move and reposition to fix the shadows. What do we do?? Find something to use as a reflector to add fill light where the shadows are! So, I had dad hold up a white swaddling blanket and boom, resulting picture is on the right. Anything white or metallic can help if you are in a bind and don’t have an actual reflector. I will try to find some more examples but you can see my edit of the two below and the pullback shot:

Hope that helps if you ever find yourself in a less than desireable shadow situation 🙂

Smooches,
